How to Play Draw the Border
Every round follows the same five steps and takes about a minute.
- 1Read the name. A country's name sits above a map of its region. Its land borders are rubbed out under a patch of fog. The coast and the neighbours stay.
- 2Draw its borders. Trace where it meets each neighbour. Lift your finger and carry on, or start a new line anywhere.
- 3Switch tools. Draw, Erase and Move sit under the map. Two fingers always move and zoom. On a computer, the scroll wheel zooms too.
- 4Press Done. The real borders draw in one neighbour at a time, each with its own score.
- 5Get your score. 0 to 100, from how close your lines run to the real borders. A neighbour you skip scores 0.

About Draw the Border
Draw the Border is a free geography game on Geography Games. Each day one country loses every land border it has, and you draw them back from memory: the line between Austria and Germany, between Austria and Italy, all the way round.
It's the other half of Draw the Country. There you sketch a whole outline on a blank page. Here the map is real, the coast is already drawn, and the question is where one country stops and the next one starts.
Play the daily country, draw the borders between neighbouring countries in Unlimited, or pick the one you want to practise. Islands such as Japan or Iceland have no land borders, so they live in Draw the Country.
Draw the Border FAQ
What is Draw the Border?
Draw the Border is a daily geography game. A country loses all its land borders on a real map, and you draw them back from memory.
How is my drawing scored?
Every neighbour gets its own score from 0 to 100, based on how close your line runs to the real border. The final score is the average of those scores, weighted by border length, so a long border counts for more than a short one. A neighbour you skip scores 0.
Which borders does the game use?
Natural Earth borders, the internationally recognised ones. Draw the Country uses the same data.
Why can't I pick Japan or Iceland?
Island countries have no land border to draw. They open in Draw the Country, where you sketch the whole outline.
Can I play the daily twice?
No. You get one go a day, and the country is the same for everyone. Unlimited has as many rounds as you like.
