Terms of Service

These terms apply to www.geographygames.net and all the games and articles on it. The site is operated by Ziga Straus, an individual based in the European Union, as a personal project rather than a company. By using the site you agree to these terms; if you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.

Because there are no accounts, there is nothing to sign and no contract beyond this page: these terms simply describe the deal under which the site is offered.

Geography Games is a collection of free browser games and learning articles about geography. Everything runs in your web browser: there is nothing to download, nothing to install and nothing to pay for.

The site is supported by advertising. Ads, where shown, are served by Google AdSense and are marked as such. See the Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies are handled and how consent works in the EEA and UK.

I work on the site continuously, which means games, features and content may be added, changed or removed at any time without notice. A game you enjoyed may be reworked or retired; a leaderboard may be reset when scoring changes.

The games are meant to be played by a human in a browser. Please don't use bots, scripts, automation or exploits to play games, submit scores or fill leaderboards. A leaderboard is only fun when the times on it were set by real people.

Please don't scrape the site or hammer its servers or APIs with automated traffic, attempt to gain access to systems or data that are not offered to you, or use the site for anything unlawful.

Where the site lets you type something that other people can see, such as a leaderboard display name or a multiplayer room name, keep it reasonable: no slurs, no harassment, no impersonation, nothing you wouldn't want on a public scoreboard. I may remove entries or names that break this rule.

I may block or restrict access for anyone abusing the site under this section. Since there are no accounts, this typically means technical measures rather than a ban notice.

Some games let you submit things: a display name, a score, a drawing of a country outline, guesses in a multiplayer round. You keep whatever rights you have in what you submit. By submitting, you give me permission to store it and show it where the game needs it, for example your name and time on a public leaderboard, or your drawing next to your score.

Leaderboard entries and multiplayer data are kept only as long as the game needs them. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

The games, site design, code, artwork and articles on Geography Games are the property of the operator, unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to link to any page, share your results and take screenshots. Please don't copy whole games or articles and republish them as your own, and don't frame the site inside another service in a way that hides where it came from.

The site builds on open data and open-source work: map tiles and map data are credited on the maps themselves (© OpenStreetMap contributors, © CARTO), maps are rendered with Leaflet, and country information draws on public data sources described on the About page. National flags are used as factual, educational content.

The games and articles aim to be factually correct, and sources are checked when content is written. Geography is nevertheless full of edge cases: borders are disputed, country counts depend on definitions, and statistics age. Content on this site is provided for learning and entertainment, and is not professional advice of any kind. If you spot a mistake, please tell me at ziga.developer@gmail.com and I will fix it.

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", free of charge. I don't promise that it will always be online, free of bugs, or that any particular game, score or leaderboard entry will be preserved. To the fullest extent permitted by law, all warranties, express or implied, are disclaimed.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, and any total liability is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is zero. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence.

The site uses third-party services to run: hosting, map tiles, advertising and analytics. Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. Links to external websites are provided for convenience; I don't control them and am not responsible for their content.

These terms may be updated from time to time, for example if a new feature launches. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Meaningful changes will be visible here before they apply; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's place of residence in the European Union. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of protections granted by the mandatory laws of your own country of residence.
