About the World Map Quiz
The World Map Quiz turns the classic "point at the map" test into a game. A random country is chosen as your target, and you have six clicks to find it on a blank world map with no labels. Every wrong pick is highlighted in red and stays marked, so each miss shrinks the search area for your next attempt.
Six guesses is plenty if you reason like a geographer: continent first, then region, then neighbors. Click Kazakhstan when the answer is Kyrgyzstan and the red highlight has still taught you something, because now you know roughly where you are. That process of elimination is exactly how map knowledge sticks, and it's why a lost round often teaches you more than a lucky first click.
Any country at least the size of Cyprus can be the target, so microstates like Monaco and Vatican City sit on the map but are never the answer. Rounds are unlimited. How to Play
The "Guess" badge above the map names the country you need to find.
Zoom and pan freely with your mouse or touch gestures. Looking around never costs a guess.
Click a country to submit it. A wrong pick turns red and stays red, using up one of your six guesses.
Find it and you win the round. Run out of guesses and the answer is revealed, so you'll know it next time. Play Again starts a fresh round.
Tips for Finding Any Country
- Continent first. Even a rough idea ("somewhere in West Africa") cuts the map from nearly 200 candidates to a dozen. Never spend a click before you've picked a region.
- Use the red marks as sonar. A miss tells you where the target isn't, and usually which direction to move. Two thoughtful misses often pin the answer exactly.
- Learn the confusable pairs. Niger and Nigeria, Slovakia and Slovenia, Iran and Iraq, Sweden and Switzerland. Most lost rounds come from a handful of lookalike names sitting near each other.
- Zoom before you click. Clicking is what costs a guess, so on crowded regions like the Balkans or Central America, zoom in first. A misclick on a neighbor counts.
- Anchor on coastlines. Distinctive shapes like Italy's boot, the Horn of Africa or the Malay Peninsula make reliable landmarks for navigating label-free maps.

How many guesses do I get?▼
Six per round. The counter above the map shows how many you have left. Zooming and panning are free, only clicking a country spends a guess.
Can any country be the target?▼
Almost. Targets are drawn from countries at least the size of Cyprus, so they are always comfortable to click on a world map. Microstates like Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City appear on the map but are never the answer.
What happens when I guess wrong?▼
The country you clicked turns red and stays red for the rest of the round. Use those marks to narrow down the region instead of guessing blindly.
What happens when the round ends?▼
Guess correctly and you win the round. Use up all six guesses and the correct country is revealed. Either way, Play Again starts a new round with a fresh random target, as many times as you like.
