How to play
- 1You get five prompts, like "a country that borders China". You have twenty seconds for each.
- 2Type a country that fits. A wrong country or a typo doesn't use up your turn, so keep trying until the clock runs out.
- 3If it's right, your hiker walks there across the globe and plants a flag.
- 4The fewer players who gave the same answer, the more points you get. Your five stops make a trip you can share.
How scoring works
Every right answer scores between 10 and 100 points. The score depends on how many other players gave the same answer today. An answer half the players gave is worth about 20 points. One that only 1 in 400 players thought of is worth 100.
- Everyone said it20% of players or more10 to 33points
- Common8 to 20%33 to 47points
- Off the path3 to 8%47 to 62points
- Rare find1 to 3%62 to 79points
- Hidden gemunder 1%79 to 100points
For "a country that borders China", Russia gets about 25 points because a third of players say it. Bhutan gets 87, because fewer than 1 in 100 do. If the clock runs out before you find a right one, you get 0 and your hiker stays where he is.

Tips for rare answers
- Skip the first country that comes to mind. Half the players will say it too.
- Small countries and islands are where the big points are. Think Bhutan, Lesotho, Nauru.
- Look at the globe while the clock runs. You can spin it and zoom in to check a border.
- A wrong guess only costs time. Try a rare one first and keep a safe answer for the last few seconds.
- If you like Krillion's geography rounds, the same thinking works here, with a map to help.
Questions
Is this Krillion?
No. Rare Answer Geography is our own game, made by Geography Games and inspired by Krillion's rare-answer idea. It isn't connected to Krillion. Every prompt is our own, and every answer is a country you can see on the globe.
How is rarity counted?
We count how many players gave each right answer to today's prompt. The fewer players who said your country, the more points you get. Early in the day, when few people have played, we start from an estimate of how well known each country is, and the real answers take over as players come in. Your points are fixed the moment you answer.
Can I play more than one round?
The daily round is one per day and the same for everyone. Unlimited rounds use different prompts and you can play as many as you like. Unlimited rounds don't go on the board.
Which answers count?
Any of the 197 countries that fit the prompt, typed in English. Common other names work too, like USA, UK or Ivory Coast. Territories such as Greenland don't count as countries.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no sign-up. Your scores are kept on this device.
